CSA Week 11, 8/7/13

For a celebration of half way through our harvest, we decided to give everyone free snow cones for everyone! It was a welcome relief after another hard day's work. Yum!
We hope you enjoyed them!
Here's this week's basket:
Here's the list of what it all was:
Red Potatoes, Leeks, Zucchini, Sweet Onion, Garlic Bulbs, Cucumbers, Broccoli, Carrots, Basil, Strawberries, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Radishes* ... We were excited about the garlic and strawberries especially. Deelish!

*We did have our first "oops" though. What we thought were turnips turned out to be a specialty kind of "Watermelon" radish. (white on the outside & red in the middle) We sent out an email to warn everyone. We realized our mistake an hour later when we diced the "turnips" for our stew...and they tasted like radishes!

(NOT a turnip! *sheepish grin*)

CSA Week 10, 7/31/13

Week 10 means that we are half way through this Harvest season. I think we've been doing a pretty good job so far of offering both variety and quality produce. Today's list is in the picture below.
Also, by request, we've started a Swore Farms CSA facebook page so our CSA members can visit about recipes and how they are cooking their fresh yummies. (For instance, we diced the transparent apples without peeling them and made apple cobbler a couple days ago. Yum!)

Week 9 CSA, 7/24/13

This week brought the first Zucchini, Leeks, Sweet Onions, and organic Transparent apples too! Yum!

Here's the list:
It was fun harvesting something different where we had to climb instead of crawl or stoop all the time. These Transparent apples really have a lovely tangy flavor. We split about 6 buckets of apples up among the shares. Yummy!

CSA Week 8, 7/17/13

Here's a photo of a large laundry basket with a full share in it just to give you some persepective on how much food this is.

Each full share got 2 lbs of shelling peas today. It was a lot of picking, but we hope you think it was worth it! Shelling peas are so yummy. (Our family never bothers to cook them, we just eat them like candy)

To insure everyone gets everything they are supposed to, we hang a list outside the door so after we load the baskets, our CSA members can check for themselves and be sure they got all the fresh goodies they were supposed to get. (With our children helping people, mistakes are always possible. Double check, and you'll never go wrong.)

This is a half share this week. yummy!

CSA Week 7, 7-10-13

Today brought the first of the shelling peas, green beans, beets, tomatoes, broccoli, head lettuce, red potatoes, sugar snap peas, carrots, and spinach!
Also, we are on the second round of eggs, so by the end of the month, everyone will have had 2 dozen of our free range eggs.
Tomatoes are so yummy right off the vine like this! There is no comparison.

Here's what a half bushel looked like today:
The half share had less potatoes and beans, but otherwise was the same.

Everyone seems quite happy so far. Thank you for supporting us!
