Now Taking Applications for the 2014 CSA program!

It may still be winter, but here at Swore Farms, we are hard at work plotting and planning for the 2014 season! And...drum roll please...We are excited to invite you to participate in our 2014 CSA program!

If you surf through the posts on this blog, you can see the actual pictures of the food we gave out each week during harvest. THANK YOU so much to everyone who joined us that first year!

If you would like to join us for this year, please go to our website and look over the contract. Space is very limited so hurry before it fills up!

A new addition to the program is our WORK SHARE program! We are super excited about this new feature. By adopting one row, you can save $75 dollars off the price of your Full or Half share! More details are on the website.

Here's the link!

On a sidenote, I've noticed that sometimes when I click on the page, you might need to refresh the page to see the CSA IS OPEN part. I think google memorized the old image and needs a reminder to refresh it to the current updated page. THANK YOU!

Swore Farms 2013, A Year In Review.

Dear Friends of Swore Farms, 2013 had ups and downs for us here on the farm.
There were new chicks...

A LOT of planting...

LOADS of Weeding!... (With the occasional nap on the dog, Daisy)

We launched our CSA Program (Community Supported Agriculture) and 36 of you took a leap of faith and joined us for the season—thank you! There are pictures of all the weeks here on this blog. Go look, we'll wait.

Then we lost a grandmother, and our beloved uncle, Steve Swore; our whole world shook. We are still trying to patch together the gaping hole he left in our lives and here on the farm.

Kidlet #4 lost her peacocks too.

We filled a huge truck with sweet corn with the help of volunteers for the food bank.

We picked corn everyday from mid-August through the end of September rain or shine! (or wind, or hail...)

We made the corn maze with help from the whole family!

We had wagon rides

And helped people find the perfect pumpkin!

With Farm Bureau’s help, we hosted Ag Days with all the fourth graders in Pocatello and gave them ALL red potatoes to take home. They all went through our educational corn maze! (Also, I lost a tug-o-war with first graders)

The Swore Farms Pumpkin fairy delivered pumpkins to several local businesses and services like police, fire stations, banks, and children’s clinic.

Most of all, we are grateful for you this year. Your support has made all the difference in our world and we thank you. Rest easy during these long winter months and know that we’re busy making plans for next year. We wish you health and happiness with your loved ones. May 2014 be kind to you and yours. Much love from the Swore Family!
And now... We'll do it all again. Okay 2014, Let's do this. Hope it's a good one.

CSA Week 20!! THE END! 10/9/13

Our Final DAY deserves a party, don't you think?
We thought so!
To celebrate, we invited CSA families to come out and enjoy the Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch! We had facepainting, haywagon ride to the pumpkin patch, the corn maze, farm games, and of course fresh vegi's!

I neglected to take a photo of the produce this week but everyone got loads of carrots, potatoes, parsnips, multiple squash of different varieties, and of course, PUMPKINS! We also had hot cider for anyone who wanted any.

Overall, I think we did a pretty good job this year of giving our CSA members fresh and delicious vegetables and fruit. We discovered that it really is a lot of work, but we hope that you enjoyed this adventure with us. See you next year!!
Here's a picture of the 2012 maze as shown by Google Earth. You can see that we don't make a "picture" with the maze, but it is definitely harder and longer than it looks from the outside! Next year's maze will be even bigger!

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR! THANK YOU!

CSA Week 19, 10/2/13

On to OCTOBER! Boy this season has gone fast! We hosted Ag Days with Farm Bureau and invited every 4th grader in Pocatello out to learn about agriculture. They had great fun and went through the Maze, and heard from the Soil & Water Conservation, the Noxious Weed Department, 4-H Extension Office, Farm Bureau, The FFA, and they got to dig their own potatoes out of the field. We gave away over 8,000lbs of red potatoes this week. We also invited local Legislature representatives out to see the farm.

Okay, onto the CSA, no matter what's going on around the farm, we do our best to give you the best produce possible! We Moved the pickup station outside for this week to give everyone a bit more room!

CSA Week 18, 9/25/13

OOh, Boy, that's good corn. People come every day for it at the farm.
We're getting to the end of the corn season here, and early frosts have threatened some of the crops,
 but we're still going!
Fresh Herbs, Acorn and Butternut Squash, Kale and more! Here's the list.

The wheat is being harvested at this time, and pumpkins are ready for picking! Here's a few pictures of that.

CSA Week 17, 9/18/13

As you can see, this week had cantaloupe as well as all the other yummy things! We love those juicy melons! Also on the menu for full share was 13 ears of corn, 1 turnip, 1 bag potatoes, 2 leeks, 1 palace King Cucumber, 2 tomatoes, 5 tomatillos, 1 banana pepper, 1 green pepper, 2 specialty peppers, 6 onions, 15 green onions, 4 beets, 1 slicer cucumber, 4 lemon cucumbers, and 20 carrots.
Good stuff!

This week we had some awesome volunteers come out and help fill the food bank's truck full of our yummy sweet corn! Thanks to these helping hands, hundreds of people enjoyed a fine sweet corn dinner!
Thanks Guys!
